All the workers are hurrying
The new passengers are arriving.
As I sat at a desk writing I
was accosted by a china man
and looking up saw a long line
of them with women and children.
I was ask where 17??? was – then
they left and rushed up stairs.
the wrong direction of course.
And the chinaman wanted
307 – I directed him up stairs –
later another ??? came + asked
where to deliver a consignment
to the medical dept.
I turned him over to a deck
steward as I could not make
him undesrstand –
the gong sounds the whistle
blows and we are off – followed
by several boats o???
propelled by women begging
for money. They would
hold a net fastened to a long
pole up to the rail as they
begged – They are called
river beggars. They were dirty
and a little fire in the boat for
warmth.
