Tuesday Jan. 15″
Not much improvement
in the weather – a new? gray
day with the steamer dipping
its bow low in the swells
and throwing the foam and
spray high in the air –
Rather difficult to walk
on deck or anywhere for that
matter – Dr. Bade lectured in Social Hall
Wednesday – Jan 16th
a terrible night the sea so
rough and the waves so high
they sounded like an explosion
as they struck the steamer –
the Quarter Master told us
that last night during the four
hour watch the steamer
progressed but ??? 5 + 6 miles
and the ships log for the 24 hours
ended at noon to day was
but 196 miles. So we are late.

Sounding like an awful stretch of the trip here. I’m not sure the exact progress the last paragraph is describing, but it sounds like they were barely moving.
