the Narrows – but we have been
in sight of land all day –
passing numerous volcanic
islands – many ??? high
up the rocky sides of the moun-
tains and tiny villages
nestling close to the water –
Many sailing vessels in sight
and tiny sampans??? – with an
occasional steamer starting
on its return??? journey toward
our home land –
The narrows are very interesting
The steamers course crooked as
it threads its way toward
China – On both sides of the
narrows in ??? sized turns
close to the waters edge –
Occasionally a light house
on a rocky ???
the twinkling lights were on
on the shore as the beautiful

    yes – “sampans” – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampan. A sampan is a relatively flat-bottomed Chinese and Malay wooden boat.
