was an explosion throwing
up rocks and ashes.
One could not stay long in
this frigid atmosphere so we
soon winded our way back to
the car. and we came down as we
had gone up. It seemed quite
warm below after being up on
top of the volcano.
Arriving at the hotel in time
for lunch – we afterward
prepared to leave, and left at

??? fast express train for
rome – arriving at 7.40 P.M.
“Hotel Royal” in time for
dinner.
After which walking into
the parlor we met our friends
Mr. + Mrs. Paul Sherwin of
Boston. Visiting a while
and then returning at 10.P.M.
